
The NovoStent Board of Directors is comprised of accomplished and widely renowned seasoned veterans in the medical device arena.
Mr. Randall served as CEO of TranS1 from 2002 to 2011. TranS1 is a publically traded medical device company marketing devices used in the minimally invasive treatment of spinal disorders. Rick served as President and CEO of Innovasive Devices, Inc. from 1994 to 2000. Innovasive Devices was a developer, manufacturer and marketer of arthroscopic surgical products serving the sports medicine segment of the orthopedic market. Mr. Randall managed the company from the development stage through an IPO and subsequent sale to Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) in February 2000. From 1989 to 1996 Mr. Randall served as President, Chairman and Director of Target Therapeutics, Inc., a medical device company pioneering the interventional neurosurgery market. After a successful IPO in 1992, Target was acquired by Boston Scientific Corp. (BSX) in 1996.
Dr. Mills has over twenty-five years of experience in biomedical research, corporate management and venture investing. At Sanderling, Dr. Mills has focused on early stage investments in Medical Devices, Biotherapeutics, and i-Health. He has served Sanderling's portfolio companies as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Director, and/or management team member.
Prior to joining Sanderling, Dr. Mills served as the Corporate Vice President of New Business Development and Chief Scientific Officer of Target Therapeutics, a medical device company that was acquired by Boston Scientific in 1997. From July 1994 to July 1997, he was a director for Prograft Medical, a Target affiliate that was acquired by W.L Gore & Associates.
Dr. Mills received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley & San Francisco School of Medicine, his M.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Mr. Palefsky has 35 years of experience as an entrepreneur, manager and investor in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. Mr. Palefsky has been a General Partner/Managing Member of Montreux since 2002 and was a Venture Partner of Montreux from 1999 to 2002. Immediately prior to joining Montreux as a General Partner, Mr. Palefsky was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of a Montreux portfolio company, NeurogesX. Mr. Palefsky was the Chairman, President, Chief Executive Officer, and/or Director of Collagen from 1978 to 1997. It was sold to Inamed in 1999. Collagen and its affiliated companies made a number of venture capital investments during Mr. Palefsky's tenure.
Mr. Palefsky received his M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and his B.S. from the City College of the City University of New York. Mr. Palefsky served as an officer in the United States Public Health Service and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lt (jg). Mr. Palefsky was a member of the Young President's Organization from 1984 to 1997 and is currently a member of the World President's Organization.
Mr. Quadros has brought strategic leadership and his wealth of experience to early-stage and mature companies as a venture capital manager for over 20 years. Since 2001, Paul has been Managing Partner of Tenex Greenhouse Ventures, an early stage life-science venture fund affiliated with Tenex Medical Investors, an angel group which Paul co-founded.
Paul is a founder and former Chairman of the Board of Corautus Genetics, a cardiovascular gene therapy company that was formed in 2003 through the merger of GenStar Therapeutics, a public company, and Vascular Genetics, Inc. Paul co-founded GenStar in 1995 and served as its President and CEO through a milestone partnering agreement with Baxter Healthcare in 1998. From 1998 to 2003, Paul was GenStar's Executive Chairman and served as Chairman of Corautus, the new merged company until 2004. GenStar was the top performing biotech stock on the AMEX in 2000.
From 1986-1994, Paul was a General Partner of Technology Funding Ltd., a venture capital management organization. He is also founder and former Chairman of the Board of Cardiac Science, a developer of automated external defibrillator software and devices. Paul currently serves as a member of the board of several public and private companies. He holds a BA in Finance from California State University at Fullerton and an MBA from The Anderson School of Management at UCLA.
Dr. Martin has 20 years of experience in biomedical research and medical device development, specializing in novel applications of high technology materials for vascular and cardiovascular disease treatment. He was recruited to lead NovoStent to recreate his past successes of technology, product and business development in the cardiovascular implant industry. G.Ray brings a winning record of establishing strategic partner relationships, fundraising, and directing new business initiatives.
Prior to joining NovoStent, G. Ray was a Vice President of Business Development at Boston Scientific, as well as TriVascular, which was acquired by Boston Scientific. Before joining TriVascular, G. Ray held executive positions at C.R. Bard and W. L. Gore where he led the development of various stent graft applications. From inventing to management of mature enterprises, his leadership has resulted in the development of several businesses and products dedicated to minimally invasive treatment of vascular disorders.
G.Ray is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of West Virginia University where he received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, and he holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering from Carnegie Mellon University. G.Ray has expertise in developing biomaterials to mimic various human vessels, and his technical contributions are recognized in numerous peer-reviewed publications and patents.
